EITS and UGA emergency personnel participate in simulation-based training for command post personnel
Bert DeSimone, EITS Communications, participated in a three-day training seminar focusing on Homeland Security Presidential Directive Five (HSPD-5) mandate and the individual components of the Incident Command System (ICS) and the National Incident Management System.
DeSimone participated in the Intelligence Section, along with Jim Williams, Lieutenant at Athens-Clarke County PD, Homeland Security Coordinator, and Pete Golden, UGA Office of Security and Emergency Preparedness, Emergency Operations Coordinator. The Intelligence Section is responsible for gathering, evaluating, and disseminating intelligence data during an incident.
The session concluded with a simulation of an emergency incident using a model campus where attendees were able to test what they had learned in the session.
The training was provided by the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA). IACLEA is an association that advances public safety for educational institutions by providing educational resources, advocacy, and professional development services. The Junior Youth Apprenticeship program is a collaboration with Clarke County School District, Athens Clarke County Leisure Services, and Northeast Georgia Regional Development Center. This is one of the programs offered through UGA's HR Workforce Development efforts.
The Junior Young Apprenticeship Program is geared toward fourteen, fifteen, and sixteen year old students only and takes place in the summer. Each potential apprentice completes a week long training Career Services training program during their spring break. After this week, the students interview for the summer positions.
EITS is one of many departments on campus participating in the Junior Youth Apprenticeship program. The first year of the program consists of 26 students. Two students, Rashad McDonald and Jason Ye, are working in ITPDS this summer. Rashad and Jason are both interested in pursuing IT careers. They have been learning about databases, data management, and project management. In addition to working in ITPDS, Rashad and Jason have been participating in job shadowing opportunities across EITS to learn more about application development, operations in the student learning center, operations in the Boyd Data Center, and desktop support.

Page=Lifestory&PersonId=113009582 Help desk tip: I'm having problems installing F-secure. How do I resolve this?
F-Secure will not install on your system if you have any other Anti-Virus or Anti-Spyware products installed. Therefore, before trying to install make sure you un-install any programs that fit either of these two categories. You will be able to install anti-spyware programs and they will function properly, but only after you install F-Secure. For complete details on resolving this problem, please see:
