EITS is the campus service unit responsible for operation and support of UGA's major shared institutional computing and data communications facilities including

• the campus network that provide access to campus, University-system, national, and international computer networks

• the WebCT instructional resource

• research computing resources

• campus compuer labs that provide standard software and connection to the campus data network for faculty, staff, and students

• campus e-mail

• calendar server

• IBM mainframe that host mission critical institutional student, financial, and library operations such as OASIS, IMS, and GALIN

• the online phonebook of names, phone numbers, and e-mail for faculty, staff, and students

• campus WWW server

• artificial intelligence research laboratory

• digital media production

EITS is organized into functional departments and management support offices under the direction of the Chief Information Officer.

Also affiliated with EITS is the interdisciplinary Artificial Intelligence Center which offers a master's degree and conducts a wide-ranging research program in Artificial Intelligence.

On behalf of the University, EITS maintains active membership in national and regional computing and networking organizations including the Internet2 project , Gartner, CUMREC , EDUCAUSE , CREN , SHARE , ACUTA , CNI , and ACM .

National and international data network connection is provided through PeachNet, the higher education network within Georgia .

To complement the university's varied hardware and software resources, EITS provides consulting and support services and training for faculty, staff, and students.

In addition, EITS distributes hundreds of microcomputer software products at reduced prices to University System of Georgia departments via site-license arrangements with several software companies.
