SecureUGA participation required by November 30, 2009

ATHENS, Ga.— In accordance with the June 3, 2009, memo SecureUGA: 2010 Security Awareness and Accountability Program from UGA's three senior vice presidents, all UGA employees currently on the UGA payroll are required to complete ten awareness modules by November 30, 2009. This includes faculty, staff, administrators, and all student workers, graduate assistants, research assistants, teaching assistants, and work-study students.

All students are encouraged to participate, but are not required to do so unless they are in the aforementioned list.

SecureUGA, which was launched in 2008, is an information security education and awareness program that includes mandatory, self-paced, online awareness presentations. In 2008, all employees were required to complete the first four awareness modules. This year, all employees are required to complete all 10 of the SecureUGA awareness modules by the November 30, 2009, deadline.

The required modules can be accessed via the SecureUGA Web site:

After logging in with a MyID and password, the modules will be presented.

The ten modules required for completion by November 30, 2009, are:

  1. Your Role in SecureUGA
  2. Security in the Workplace
  3. What is Sensitive Data?
  4. Securing Portable Electronic Devices
  5. Password Security
  6. Identity Theft and Fraud
  7. Electronic Virus Protection
  8. Copyright and Fair Use
  9. E-mail and Web Security
  10. Online Personalities and Avatars

Modules that have been completed, and those that are not yet completed, will be listed separately.

Each module should take less than 5 minutes to complete. It is not necessary to do all the modules at one time.

Compliance with the requirement to complete all ten modules will be sent in a report to all deans and unit heads after the November 30, 2009, deadline.
