CIO and Associate Provost Dr. Barbara A. White
ATHENS, Ga.— Dr. Barbara A. White, CIO and associate provost, is serving as chair-elect of the University System of Georgia Administrative Committee on Information Technology (ACIT). Her election was announced at the ACIT spring meeting in St. Simon's island.

She will assume the role of chair of the ACIT in April 2009.

In her role as chair-elect, White will provide leadership for information technology in higher education in concert with the CIO's and other executive IT leadership at the 35 University System of Georgia institutions.

"I am looking forward to working with my colleagues in the areas of strategic planning, policy development, and technology improvement to ensure a successful future for IT in the University System of Georgia," said White. "In the original charge to the ACIT by the Chancellor in 1989, he emphasized that all University System institutions be involved and represented in setting the direction for IT in the System. It is truly an honor to provide leadership in setting this direction for the next two years."

The ACIT focuses on policies and procedures affecting information technology within the University System. These include, but are not limited to, the areas of electronic communication networks, computing hardware, administrative information systems, academic information systems, and other computing activities. The ACIT also serves as an advisory body to the Vice Chancellor for Information and Instructional Technology/Chief Information Officer.

The chair-elect is responsible for coordination and oversight of all ACIT standing committees. These standing committees include:

  • Administrative Information Systems Subcommittee
  • Human Resources/Personnel Subcommittee
  • Instructional Technology Subcommittee
  • Networking Subcommittee
  • Operations Subcommittee
  • Software Subcommittee
  • Strategic Planning Subcommittee
  • PeachNet Board

The chair-elect also assists the chair in briefings to the Board of Regents and assumes the chair's responsibilities in the event that the chair is unable to attend meetings or fulfill responsibilities.
