bert@uga.edu EITS launches revamped streaming media Web site ATHENS, Ga.— The streaming media service at UGA, which supports instructional use of audio and video distribution over the Internet, has a new Web site. Designed by Sean Hessenthaler in the EITS Instructional and Multimedia Application Support Group, the site boasts an extensive tutorial collection, frequently asked questions, and examples of streaming media use at UGA. "With streaming media," says Hessenthaler, "faculty and other instructors can provide access to audio or video to an entire class, including live Webcasts from remote sites." According to information on the Web site (streaming.uga.edu), streaming media can integrate with existing Web-mediated course material, including WebCT, UGA's online Learning Management Sytem. WebCT is used in over 6,800 courses at UGA. Streaming services are jointly sponsored by EITS and the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL). The streaming media server at UGA is available to units, faculty, staff, and TAs at no cost to further their educational missions. The site also includes information on Podcasting, an alternative to streaming media designed for small devices like MP3 players, iPods, and similar devices.
