Enterprise Information and Technology computing systems should understand that these resources are part of the educational and research facilities provided by the University of Georgia and the general principles governing use of such facilities also apply to computing systems. In particular, these systems exist to support the business and work activities of the University and use of such systems is limited to official University functions. Moreover, respect for the privacy and property of others and for standards of academic honesty also apply to use of computer systems. All use ofEITS supported facilities and EITS supplied accounts must be in accordance with The University of Georgia Computer Use Policies.
In general, access to and use of the computing facilities managed by EITS will be limited to persons directly affiliated with the University of Georgia. Exceptions to this limitation are permitted under certain conditions subsequently described.
Direct affiliation in this context means faculty, staff and students of the University of Georgia. Faculty includes persons holding either permanent or temporary appointments as well as adjunct faculty, instructors, retired faculty and visiting faculty while in residence at the University. It also includes those persons with faculty status such as research associates, research scientists and academic and service professionals. Staff includes all those non-faculty persons employed directly by the University, either part-time or full-time, as well as retired staff. Students includes any persons enrolled in the established academic credit programs of the University, including full or part-time regular undergraduate or graduate students, day or evening class students, independent study program students and jointly enrolled undergraduate students.
Access requests from University alumni or benefactors on the basis of direct affiliation with the University will be considered on an individual basis in consultation with the Alumni and Development Office.
Having a work location on the Athens campus is not a requirement for access to and use of EITS computing resources by persons directly affiliated with the University of Georgia. However, any costs incurred for commercial telecommunications services, including long distance toll charges, to connect to EITS facilities from distant locations will be the responsibility of the client to pay.
Access to and use of EITS computing facilities by persons not directly affiliated with the University of Georgia must involve work to be performed which satisfies at least one of the following conditions:
Access requests by organizations not directly affiliated with the University of Georgia must be submitted in writing to the following office:
Requests must identify the organization requesting the access, describe the work to be performed, the duration of the access desired, and provide names and addresses for technical and billing contact individuals.
