1. What is MyWeb?

MyWeb is the web page hosting service for UGA students, faculty and staff that replaces the ARCHES web page service.

MyWeb is a part of MyDrive, which provides an Internet-accessible file storage repository for UGA students, faculty, and staff. Users can access their personally owned files on MyDrive through MyUGA (my.uga.edu), the mydrive.uga.edu website or enabled desktop clients. Each MyDrive user has a "www" directory, and all files related to your web pages must go in your "www" directory or a sub-directory of it.

2. What happened to web pages on ARCHES?

If you had ARCHES webpages then they have been migrated by EITS to MyWeb (the "www" directory of MyDrive) and no immediate action on your part is required.

However, the URL to access your web pages has changed:
http://myid.myweb.uga.edu (where 'myid' is your UGA MyID).

Please note that http://www.arches.uga.edu/~myid will forward to this new URL.

3. Since my ARCHES PAGES were migrated, I have some problems.

Most web pages that were functioning on ARCHES should function exactly the same on MyWeb. If you have problems with access to certain pages or images related to your site, those problems are most likely related to either file names or file permissions. For details of possible problems and solutions, please see the Migration Problems page at http://www.eits.uga.edu/myweb/problems.html.

4. What do I need to access and use MyDrive/MyWeb Network Storage?

To access MyDrive/MyWeb, you need a UGA MyID, an internet connected computer, and an approved browser. The latest versions of either Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, or Netscape should work with no problem on most Windows PCs. The AOL browser is not recommended. If you're an AOL user, after logging in to you AOL account, launch one of the approved browsers to access MyDrive.

For Macintosh users, the default Mac broswer, Safari, does not work with MyDrive/MyWeb and we recommend using Mozilla Firefox instead.

If you have a MyID and you are a current UGA student, faculty, or staff, then you have access to MyDrive/MyWeb. All faculty, staff, and students at UGA are eligible for an MyDrive/MyWeb account free of charge.  Your MyDrive account will be valid as long as you are affiliated with UGA.

System-wide backups are maintained for disaster recovery purposes only.  It is the users responsibility to safely backup important data. In the event of accidental file deletion there are no file recovery services available, although you may be able to retreive the file youself (see #8 below)

8. Can you retrieve a file that I deleted accidentally?

EITS provides no file recovery services , but you may be able to retrieve the file yourself.

After you login to MyDrive/MyWeb using a web browser, from the pull-down menu choose File-->Show Deleted Files.

Deleted files will now appear in your file list (in red with strike-through print). Select the check box beside the file you want to undelete and from the pull-down menu select File--> Undelete.

You must have adequate disk space available to undelete a file. Deleted files retain the path information that they had when they were deleted, so you would need to view the contents of the folder from which the file was deleted in order to see those deleted files.

19. Web pages created in MS Word or Front Page do not correctly display symbol inserts (such as copyright or other symbols) properly after uploading them to myweb. Instead, the symbols are replaced with: .

Web pages created with MS Office need to be transferred to the web server in "Binary" mode. Secure FTP uses "AUTO" as the default mode of transfer, but this needs to be set to binary if you created or edited your web pages using Microsoft Word or Front Page.

To transfer files in binary using Secure FTP:
Go to the "Remote" menu
Select "Transfer Mode"
Select "Binary"
Re-upload your pages (by dragging them and replacing them)
This should display the symbols correctly.

20. I get a "Licensing Error" code when I try to use WebDrive®.

If you install the WebDrive program after previously uninstalling the program from the same computer, you will receive a "Licensing Error " message in a popup window. You will need to reactivate your license key for the software.
Details

If you install the webdrive.exe from UGA Sitesoft in order to upgrade the version of the WebDrive on your computer, WebDrive will need to re-authenticate the license key for the installed program. The re-authentication action will fail due to an improper license key in the “Product Registration Code” field. This is due to the previous version’s license key appearing this field. You will need to download the correct license key from the UGA Sitesoft website and input this license key in the “Product Registration Code” field.
