SecureUGA is a role-based security training and accountability model in which every individual, regardless of position, has a responsibility to protect our sensitive and critical data. SecureUGA is comprised of three components: policy and procedures, technology, and people. Policy sets the foundation to guide our process and action. Technological enhancements will build strong systems and infrastructure. The third and most important component, people, will be addressed via awareness, training, and education. For more information, please see story below.

November 30 deadline approaches for required participation in online information security training presentations, SecureUGA

SecureUGA, which was officially launched April 2 in a memo from UGA's three senior vice presidents, is an information security education and awareness program that includes mandatory, self-paced, online awareness presentations. All faculty and staff at UGA are required to complete the first four of these presentations by November 30.

"All faculty, staff, and administrators are required to complete four awareness modules by November 30, 2008," said Sandi Glass, director of the College of Education Office of Information Technology and CIO Advisory Cabinet Chair. "Compliance with this requirement will be sent in a report to all deans and unit heads after the November 30 deadline."

Glass went on to say that everyone, including students, will benefit greatly from the presentation modules. At this time, student participation is not required but strongly encouraged.

IT Compact Planning sessions begin September 22

The Office of the Chief Information Officer and Enterprise Information Technology Services (EITS) continue their commitment to information technology as a strategic asset of the University supporting the mission and strategic priorities of the University. As a strategic asset, the enabling function of IT for the instructional, research, public service and outreach, and administrative systems and services is central in providing the highest level of leadership, service and support possible to our students, faculty, staff, and external constituents.

As many of you are aware, the Office of the CIO and EITS entered into a collegial and negotiated user-driven approach to strategic planning for information technology in 2005 called Compact Planning. This process is designed to engage the campus in the identification of high-priority information technology needs and requirements; the process is also designed for long-term planning for core information technology infrastructure, systems, services, and applications.

In order to provide for the required level of service, and to plan for the long-term needs of the campus community both on-and off-campus, the FY09 round of Compact Planning will be September 22-30. Specific information regarding the general session and individual group sessions is available on the Compact Planning Web site at:

http://eits.uga.edu/compact

In addition, you can learn more about Compact Planning by viewing the Compact Planning video available on the EITS IT-TV Web site located at:

http://eits.uga.edu/it-tv

Recognizing how busy members of the University community are, if you cannot attend one of the sessions scheduled September 22-30, please take the opportunity to submit your thoughts regarding priority needs and requirements through the online Compact Planning Feedback Form located on the Compact Planning Web site. For additional information, please feel free to contact Lynn Latimer, Associate Director for IT Planning and Decision Support, at 706-425-2920 or by emailing llatimer@uga.ed u.
